Volleyball Finds Spark; Tops Chargers
Doane Volleyball was able to break through on Saturday afternoon in Crete as they picked up a four-set victory over Briar Cliff. The win snapped a tough stretch of games for the Tigers despite some strong play in recent outings. Game scores were 25-15, 25-18, 23-25, and 25-20.
For the second time this season, Doane had four players finish in double-figures for kills. The other time came in a five-set match with MidAmerica Nazarene. Taylor Sluka (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) led the team with 15 kills and a .500 attack percentage. Jaime Renshaw (SR/Sioux Falls, S.D.) connected for 14 kills and Kirsten Bures (SR/Odell, Neb.) added 11 kills. Simonie Mendenhall (SR/Clancy, Mont.) finished with 10 kills and a .364 attack percentage.
Renshaw dished out 25 assists and picked up 19 digs to lead the Tigers as she collected another triple-double, her fourth in the last five matches. Renshaw moved into 5th all-time on the Doane charts for career assists. Jordan Bolte (SO/Bruning, Neb.) added 20 assists and 17 digs. Sophia McKinney (FR/Grand Island, Neb.) finished with 15 digs and MacKenzie Painter (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) added 10 digs.
At the net defensively, Doane posted 11.0 team blocks. Cassidy Tompkin (SR/Clay Center, Neb.) led the way with six total blocks while Renshaw and Mendenhall were in on four blocks apiece.
Following the match, the Tigers recognized their seniors: Renshaw, Mendenhall, Bures, Tompkin, Ally Wallace (SR/Franktown, Colo.), and student assistant Morgan Burnett.
Doane will hit the road on Wednesday, October 19, when they travel to No. 6 Concordia for a 7:30 PM match-up.
