(2) Northwestern Slows Tiger Volleyball Upset Efforts

Volleyball took on No. 2 Northwestern on Friday evening in Crete with the visiting Red Raiders picking up a 3-0 win. Game scores were 25-19, 25-16, and 25-16.

The Red Raiders built a seven point lead midway through the opening set, 19-12, but Doane would chip into the deficit with a 4-1 run to pull within four points, 20-16. Kills in the set were equal, 12-12.

In the second set, the Tigers jumped out to a 12-9 lead before the Red Raiders found a groove and went on a 13-1 run to take the lead. Northwestern posted 13 kills to Doane's 10 but the difference came in the attack percentage as NWC hit .281 to Doane's .081.

Northwestern scored five of the first six points in the final set to lead from start to finish. They finished with 12 kills and a .233 attack percentage in the set.

For Doane, Frankie Curren-Graff posted six kills while a trio of Tigers, Olivia Navarro, Taylor Sluka, and Gracie Burwell had five apiece. Camdyn Carpenter dished out 23 assists.

Sophia McKinney led Doane with two ace serves and 15 digs in the match. The Tigers had 5.0 team blocks, two apiece from Navarro and Delaney Burge.

It will be a short turn-around for Doane as they host Dordt on Saturday at 3 PM. Following the game, the Tigers will recognize their senior class.
