Volleyball Snags Win on Senior Day

Volleyball took on Dordt in Crete on Saturday afternoon as the Tigers held Senior Day. After dropping the first set, Doane found their spark and took the next three sets for a 3-1 win. Game scores were 21-25, 25-16, 25-22, and 25-22. The win was Doane's first over the Defenders since 2016, snapping an eight-match drought.

In the second set, Doane broke the set open with a 6-0 run that turned a four point lead into a 10-point advantage. Dordt looked poised to take the third set, leading 18-11, midway through. The Tigers used a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 18-16 only to have the Defenders take the next three points for a 21-16 lead. Another 5-0 run led to a 9-1 run to close the set for the Tigers to take a 2-1 lead. 

In set four, the Defenders jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Doane fought back to tie the set at 13-all. The score was back and forth leading to a 22-all tie. The Tigers took the final three points to secure the win.

For the match, the Tigers had 50 kills while the Defenders finished with 54 kills. Doane hit .181 as a team while Dordt hit .116. The defense at the net went in favor of Doane as the Tigers had 14.0 team blocks and Dordt had 12.0 team blocks.

Taylor Sluka and Frankie Curren-Graff finished with 12 kills apiece and Gracie Burwell added 10 kills. Delaney Burge chipped in with eight kills on 18 attacks for a .444 attack percentage. Camdyn Carpenter finished with 44 assists. Doane had six ace serves in the match, three from Kayden Schumacher.

Sophia McKinney posted 21 digs and Carpenter added 18 digs. Harper Case finished with a career-high 15 digs as the team posted 94 digs in the match. At the net, Olivia Navarro finished with six assist blocks to lead the team. Jadyn Branson and Curren-Graff were in on five blocks apiece.

Doane will travel to Omaha on Wednesday, October 11, to take on College of Saint Mary at 7:30 PM in varsity action.
