Volleyball Wins Five-Set Thriller

Volleyball picked up a big win over Hastings on Wednesday evening at home, topping the Broncos in a five-set thriller. The win guarantees the Tigers a Top 8 finish in the GPAC and kept them in reach of the Top 6 with two matches to go in the regular season.

Balance was in the Tigers favor as five of the six spots in the rotation accounted for double-figures in kills. Out of the middle, Olivia Navarro and Delaney Burge each posted 11 kills. On the right side, Taylor Sluka picked up 10 kills. On the left side (outside), Frankie Curren-Graff led the team with 14 kills while the trio of Gracie Burwell, Kayden Schumacher, & Jadyn Branson accounted for 13 kills. Camdyn Carpenter dished out 56 assists on the night to go with four kills.

Defensively, the Tigers collected 112 digs as balance again stood out. Sophia McKinney had 30 digs, her second match in the last three with 30 or more. Anna Sluka had a career-high 22 digs, Carpenter added 19, Sophia Turek finished with 13, and Harper Case picked up 10.

Doane also collected 8.0 team blocks, led by Burge with five total blocks. Carpenter and Navarro were in on three apiece.

Next up for the Tigers will be a road trip to Fremont on Saturday, October 28, to take on Midland at 3:00 PM.
