Rodriguez Tabbed KCAC Women's Wrestler of the Week
The inaugural season of women's wrestling is underway at Doane following the first weekend of competition. The Tigers were able to celebrate several "first" in program history over the weekend and on Monday, the program added another "first". The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has announced the first recipients of the conference's weekly Wrestler of the Week honors and Doane's Cristelle Rodriguez (FR/Clovis, Calif.) has been named the Women's Wrestler of the Week.
Rodriguez did not allow a point against her in the Friends Invite on Saturday as she went 4-0 at 123 to win the division championship. She opened with a pair of 10-0 tech fall victories. Her second one came against NAIA No. 9 Ashley Whetzal (Missouri Valley).
In the semifinals, Rodriguez picked up a pin in 1:59 while she was leading 8-0 over Katherine Heath (Baker), who is ranked No. 6 in the NAIA for the 116 division. Heath was wrestling up a weight class on the weekend. In the finals, Rodriguez posted another 10-0 tech fall victory as she defeated Larissa Kaz (Hastings).
Doane will travel to Arizona this week to compete in the Embry-Riddle Invite on November 11.
