Benn Takes Second at York Open
Doane Women's Wrestling returned to the mat on Saturday as they competed at the York Open. The Tigers took eight wrestlers to the meet with two placing in the Top 3. There were two divisions of brackets, "Open" and "Freshman/Sophomore", with all Tiger wrestlers competing in the latter.
Lamia Benn advanced to the finals of the 170 bracket and finished in second place. She opened the day with a pin at 3:00 over Tambria Wilson of Central Methodist. In the Quarterfinal Round, she received a win by disqualification over Morgan Senior of Wayland Baptist. Benn was ahead 2-0 when the match was stopped. In the Semifinal Round, Benn defeated NCAA DII Lila Bloomer of Chadron State by pin in 1:03. In the final match, she lost to Katie Schlosser of Iowa Central CC by pin in 0:47.
Aevri Ciha took third place in the 143 bracket. She opened with a pin of Jennifer Jimenez of Waldorf in 1:15. She dropped her Quarterfinal match to Naida Abdijanovic of Iowa Wesleyan by pin in 0:55 but bounced back with win via pin of Niah Smith of Waldorf in 1:13. Ciha topped Susana Mondragon of Avila with a pin in 0:51 and Cherei Jones of Grand View in 3:57. In the final match, she defeated Lilly Gough of Central Methodist by pin in 0:54.
Maya Blackman picked up three wins on the day in the 155 bracket. She defeated Marissa Gaylor of York by pin (time not available) and Lynexa Adams of Indian Hills CC in 2:48. She added a tech fall win of 10-0 over Emma Thompson of Central Methodist.
Amy Parra recorded one win in the 191 bracket as she defeated Grace Todhunter of Jamestown by pin in 1:17.
Doane will be back in action on Thursday, January 19, when they take on York College at 7 PM in the Haddix Center. The dual will mark the first one in program history for the Tigers.
