KCAC Names Rodriguez Women's Wrestler of the Week
Doane Women's Wrestler Cristelle Rodriguez posted a 4-1 mark at the Grand View Open on Saturday, February 4, and for her efforts she has been named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Women's Wrestler of the Week, presented by Equity Bank. This marks the fourth time that Rodriguez has received the honor this season.
The Tiger freshman opened her day in the 130 division with a 10-0 win over Cassidy Anderson of Central Christian. In her next match, she defeated Autumn Flanigan of Augsburg, 10-0.
In the quarterfinals, she faced off against Xochiti Mota-Pettis, the 2022 59-kilogram runner-up at the US Championships. The match stood at 3-2 in favor of Mota-Pettis as the clock moved inside 30 seconds. Rodriguez went for a double-leg takedown but Mota-Pettis was able to fight it off and get a takedown of her own followed by three rollovers to finish the match, 11-2.
Rodriguez bounced back in the consolation bracket with a 12-1 win over Sophia Smith of Oklahoma City, ranked No. 8 at 130. In her final match, Rodriguez defeated Louisa Schwab of Menlo by pin in 25 seconds. Schwab is ranked No. 9 at 136 in the NAIA.
