Rodriguez Named KCAC Women's Wrestler of the Week
Women's Wrestling garnered their second Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) weekly honor of the season with Cristelle Rodriguez named the KCAC Women's Wrestler of the Week presented by Equity Bank. Results from the week of November 27-December 3 were used to determine the weekly honor. For Rodriguez, this is her first weekly honor of the season and fifth of her career.
Rodriguez went 5-0 on the weekend at the Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open and won the 123 division. She outscored her opponents 53-2 on the weekend, posting five wins by tech fall.
After a pair of 10-0 tech fall wins to open the tournament, she took on NJCAA No. 7 Danica Linn of Iowa Western. Rodriguez won 10-0. She defeated NAIA No. 20 Tyelor Rozell of Friends with a 10-0 tech fall as well.
In the championship match, Rodriguez defeated NAIA No. 9 Larissa Kaz of Hastings by tech fall, 13-2. The victory gave Rodriguez her seventh tournament championship of her career and the second this season.
Rodriguez will take a brief break from Doane wrestling as she, along with teammates Bridgette Sotomayor and Ashlee Palimo'o, will compete at the 2023 Senior Nationals - 2024 US Olympic Trials Qualifier in Fort Worth, Texas, on December 15.
Doane's next scheduled competition will be in 2024 when the Tigers compete at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on January 5-6.
