Women's Wrestling Drops First Match at NWCA National Duals

Women's Wrestling started competition at the NWCA National Duals on Friday by taking on No. 4 Southern Oregon. The Tigers, competing in their first National Duals event, dropped the opening match to the Raiders, 41-6.

Doane was held to one win in the match as Cristelle Rodriguez was victorious at 123. She defeated Fernanda Lopez by tech fall, 17-2. Lopez is ranked No. 2 at 116 in the NAIA.

The Tigers had two narrow defeats as well at 136 and 191. Bridgette Sotomayor was edged by No. 14 Desinee Lopez. The final score was 10-10 with Lopez receiving the win by earning the last point. In the 191 match, Kenisha Jacsaint lost to No. 12 Ramona Jimenez, 3-2. Jimenez escaped with the win as Jacsaint completed a takedown a second after time had expired.

Doane will take on No. 10 Oklahoma City in the consolation bracket at 11:30 AM on Friday.
