Women's Wrestling Downed by No. 10 Stars
Women's Wrestling closed out their first day at the NWCA National Duals as they took on Oklahoma City. The 10th-ranked Stars posted a 30-15 win over the Tigers.
The premier match of the dual came at 123 where NAIA No. 1 Cristelle Rodriguez took on the Stars' Sophia Smith, ranked No. 2 in the weight class. Rodriguez recorded two takedowns in the opening period for a 4-0 lead. In the second period, Smith was able to fight off a single leg attack by Rodriguez and turn it into a takedown with a rollover to tie the match at 4-all. In the closing minute Rodriguez recorded two takedowns to post an 8-4 win.
Bridgette Sotomayor recorded a win at 136, defeating Morgan Mackey by tech fall, 12-2. Aspen Barber earned a pin in her return to action, defeating Presley McCandlish in 2:03. Kenisha Jacsaint closed out the day for the Tigers with an upset victory over No. 17 Rylann Rumsey by decision, 10-4.
On Saturday, the Tigers will return to the mat and face No. 8 William Penn at 9 AM.
