Four Place in Top 3 of Warrior Open
Women's Wrestling competed in their final meet prior to the KCAC Championships in two weeks when they traveled to Fremont to compete in the Warrior Open. Doane picked up four Top 3 finishes in the event.
Karina Vang took second place at 101 with a 3-1 day. She opened with a pin over Ava McNeal of NCAA DII Sioux Falls in 1:08. She followed with a 10-0 tech fall in the quarterfinals and pinned NAIA No. 13 Zoe Omura of Midland in 1:36. In the finals, she dropped her match to NJCAA No. 1 Mia Siqueiros of Iowa Western CC by pin in 3:52. Vang was within a point, 5-4, before Siqueiros was able to record the takedown and pin.
Kenisha Jacsaint took second at 191 with a 3-1 day. She opened the day with a pin over Waldorf's Maryjane Barton in a weight class Doane record time of 24 seconds, topping the mark she set earlier this year. Jacsaint followed with an 8-3 decision before posting a 10-0 tech fall win over NJCAA No. 2 Makinzie Parsons of Iowa Western CC. In the finals, NAIA No. 13 Olivia Brown won 10-0.
Picking up a third place finish was Bridgette Sotomayor at 136. After dropping her opening match by a 4-3 decision, she rattled off six straight wins. Sotomayor posted two wins by pin, one by injury stoppage, a tech fall, and a decision going into the final match against NAIA No. 14 Aremie Steele of Grand View. In the last match, Sotomayor tied the match at 4-all which proved to be the difference by scoring the last points to earn the decision win, 4-4.
Hailey Romero had a similar path to her third place finish at 170. After dropping her opening match, she won four straight. Romero won her first two matches in the consolation bracket by tech fall and then pinned Barahona Negrete of Southeast CC in 1:15. In the third place match was awarded to Romero by medical forfeit.
Taylor Weber went 2-2 on the day at 116, including a pin in 1:29 over Iowa Western's Elle Vinson. Andrea Jones went 3-2 at 136 on the day, posting two wins by first period pin. Brianna Membreno went 2-2 at 136 with a win by pin and one by tech fall. Kalli Sutton posted one win at 155, a pin in 1:33. Aspen Barber had one win as well at 155, a 10-4 decision. Lamia Benn finished 3-2 on the day at 170, with a win by pin in 2:59 and one by tech fall.
Next up for the Tigers is the KCAC Championships which will be held at Doane on Saturday, February 24, inside Fuhrer Field House. Admission will only be available via online tickets per the KCAC bylaws. Information regarding the purchase of tickets along with a tournament website will be posted when available.
