Women's Wrestling Places 12th at NAIA Championships
Women's Wrestling traveled to Jamestown, N.D., for the NAIA Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers sent five wrestlers to this year's meet and finished with 35 team points to place 12th overall.
Cristelle Rodriguez highlighted the tournament for the Tigers, bringing home the program's first NAIA National Title as she won the 123 division. She went 5-0 in the tournament and brought home some extra hardware as she was named the NAIA Women's Wrestler of the Year and the NAIA Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. She defeated three seeded wrestlers on her way to the title.
Kenisha Jacsaint won two matches at 191 in her first trip to the national meet. She opened with an upset of the 5th seed, 8-4, in her opening match. She followed with a pin to advance to the quarterfinal round before dropping her next two bouts.
Aspen Barber went 1-2 at 155 in her first trip to nationals. She picked up a win by pin in the consolation bracket. Karina Vang competed at 101 and Bridgette Sotomayor competed at 136 for the Tigers as well.
