Women's Wrestling Drops Opening Match at NWCA National Duals
Women's Wrestling opened the 2025 NWCA NAIA National Duals on Friday afternoon with a tough draw, facing off against NAIA No. 2 Grand View. The Vikings won the opening five matches and posted a 37-9 win over the Tigers.
Grand View opened the day with three straight pins followed by two tech falls to take a 23-0 lead. Doane was able to get on the scoreboard at 138 as Bridgette Sotomayor pinned Adrienne Turner at 2:37. Turner was a 2022 NAIA All-American. Sotomayor trailed 4-0 before picking up a takedown that turned into an immediate pin.
Aevri Ciha wrestled up a weight class to 145 and faced off against NAIA No. 4 Krista Warren. Ciha trailed 1-0 after the opening period but picked up a 4-point takedown 28 seconds into the second period. She followed with two more takedowns and posted an 8-3 win.
The Tigers added a single team point at 160 as Aspen Barber was edged out by NAIA No. 3 Madison Diaz by decision, 7-7, as Diaz won based on tie-break criteria.
Doane will face No. 15 Oklahoma City at 4 PM in the consolation bracket.
