Romero Wins Top 20 Battle for Women's Wrestling

Women's Wrestling faced No. 5 William Penn on Saturday morning in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at the NWCA NAIA National Duals. The Statesmen won 28-18 as they overcame an early 10-point Doane lead.

The Tigers opened with a pair of pins to start in front, 10-0. Karina Vang pinned Teya Garner in 1:17 at 103. Jaden Breeden followed with a pin of Abigail Trujillo in 2:37 at 110. The Statesmen won the next six matches to take a 23-13 lead as Doane picked up three team points in losses that they scored individual points.

Hailey Romero snapped the skid for the Tigers with a pin of NAIA No. 14 Grace Gray by pin in 3:23. Romero is ranked No. 17 in the weight class. WPU won at 207 by pin to cap the team scoring.

Doane will face No. 14 Texas Wesleyan at 12 PM in the 11th Place match.
