U.S. Open Championships Day Two Recap

The USA Wrestling 2025 CLAW U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Nevada, came to a close on Friday evening for members of the Doane wrestling program. There were two Tiger wrestlers who competed on the day.

Cristelle Rodriguez wrestled for the championship at 55kg in women's freestyle against Everest Leydecker, a two-time age-group Pan American Championship gold medalist. Rodriguez was quick out of the gate, snatching the ankle of Leydecker and picking up two points for exposure. Leydecker was able to get a reversal to cut the lead in half for Rodriguez. A little later in the opening period, Rodriguez was able to get a takedown for a 4-1 lead. The scoring would end there, as Rodriguez was able to thwart the takedown efforts of Leydecker in the second period to claim the title.

With the win, Rodriguez qualifies for Final X in Newark, New Jersey, on June 14 and will wrestle for a bid to be on Team USA Senior level team. She will compete in a best-of-three series.

Tyson Beauperthuy competed in Greco-Roman on Friday. He went 1-2 in the tournament at 82kg. In his opening match, he defeated Achilles Evans from the Betterman Elite Wrestling organization. Evans was a state finalist in high school this year in Colorado.
