Women's Wrestling Rolls in Home GPAC Dual Debut

CRETE, Neb. — The 12th-ranked Doane University women's wrestling team delivered a dominant performance on Senior Day, rolling past RV Midland, 43-5, Wednesday evening inside the Haddix Center. The match-up was the first conference home dual in the inaugural GPAC season for dual matches.

Prior to the dual, Doane honored its seniors for their contributions to the program. The Tigers responded with a commanding effort, winning nine of 10 contested weights and building an insurmountable lead early.

Tigers Set the Tone Early

At 103 pounds, No. 18 Kimberly Navarrete opened the night with a forfeit victory, giving Doane a 5-0 advantage.

No. 12 Karina Vang (ranked at 103) followed with a first-period fall over Destiny Castillo in 1:46 at 110 pounds, extending the Tiger lead to 10-0.

At 117, No. 11 Angelica Vicente Gonzalez added another forfeit win, pushing the margin to 15-0.

Top-ranked Cristelle Rodriguez needed just 42 seconds to secure a fall at 124 pounds, electrifying the Senior Day crowd and stretching the advantage to 20-0.

No. 12 Ashlee Palimo'o continued the surge with a technical fall (4:43) at 131 pounds, giving Doane a 24-0 cushion.

Midland Breaks Through, Tigers Respond

Midland's lone win came at 138 pounds, where 12th-ranked Maci Avila earned a fall over Payton Weese to cut the score to 24-5.

The Tigers quickly regained momentum. No. 16 Bridgette Sotomayor posted a 10-0 technical fall in 3:35 at 145 pounds, making it 28-5.

 

At 160, Lamia Benn secured a fall in 2:37 to extend the team total to 33-5.

 

Doane closed the dual with two straight victories by forfeit. No. 20 Yazmin Belk (180) and No. 3 Jessica Rodriguez (207) each added five points to cap the 43-5 final.
