Baseball Drops GPAC Championships in Seward
Baseball traveled to Seward on Tuesday evening to take on Concordia for the GPAC Championship. The Bulldogs used two home runs to top the Tigers, 5-1. Both teams will compete next week in the NAIA Opening Round with brackets announced on Thursday.
Concordia jumped on the board with a two-run home run in the third inning. The Tigers cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth on a Cristian Yanez pinch-hit single to plate Max Harris. The Bulldogs picked up another two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth and an RBI-double in the eighth for the final score.
Logan Amick was 2-for-4 in the game with a double while Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. The Tigers finished with seven hits in the game.
Aaron Forrest started for the Tigers and went 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four. He broke the single-season strikeout record and stands at 91 on the year. Ethan Merk threw the final 2.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three.
Doane will host one of the 10 brackets in the NAIA Opening Round starting on May 13. The NAIA will announce brackets at 4 PM on Thursday, May 9.
