No. 13 Northwestern Holds Off Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball took on No. 13 Northwestern on Saturday evening in Orange City, Iowa. The Red Raiders picked up an 86-70 over the Tigers.
Northwestern opened the game with three straight 3-point baskets only to have Doane answer each time with a 2-point basket. After NWC took a 9-4 lead, Doane responded with a 9-0 run to go in front, 13-9. The Red Raiders answered with a 17-9 run to regain the lead, 29-22. They led the Tigers at the break, 39-29.
Doane was able to pull within eight points, 50-42, with 15:33 to play in the game. The Tigers were held scoreless over the next three minutes as Northwestern went on a 9-0 run to go up by 17 points. A late 7-0 run by the Red Raiders allowed them to build their largest lead, 23 points, with 3:43 to play. The Tigers closed the game with an 11-4 run to narrow the gap in the final minutes.
Brady Timm led the Tigers with 24 points and six assists. He became the 41st player in program history to join the 1,000-point club and stands at 1,001 career points after the game. River Johnston added 13 points for the Tigers. Matt Adamek and Fred Criqui led the team with four rebounds apiece. Four different players had one steal each.
The Tigers shot 46.8-percent from the floor and 31.8-percent from behind the arc. Doane was 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Northwestern hit 14 3-point baskets compared to seven for the Tigers.
Doane will travel to Lindsborg, Kansas, on December 16, to take on Bethany as the Tigers go outside of conference play for their next four games. Tip-off is set for 3 PM.
