Men's Basketball Drops Back and Forth Tilt with BCU
Men's Basketball hosted Briar Cliff on Saturday afternoon in Crete. The Tigers and Chargers battled down to the wire with Briar Cliff picking up a 64-62 win.
The Chargers scored the first seven points of the game before Doane followed with five points to cut the BCU lead to 7-5. Briar Cliff led 12-10 with 13:15 to play in the opening half and followed with a 10-0 run over three minutes for a 12 point lead. The Tigers battled back with a 6-0 run and an 8-0 run to pull within two points at the half, 32-30 in favor of the Chargers.
Doane scored 13 straight points to open the second half to take a 43-32 lead. The Tigers held a 50-40 lead with 12:26 to play but the Chargers went on a 14-2 run to take a 54-52 lead. In the final 61 seconds, BCU hit two 3-point baskets that would prove to be the difference. Doane picked up a basket with three seconds left and drew a foul to pull within two but BCU was able to collect the rebound and run out the clock.
Brady Timm and Casen Chaney led the Tigers with 14 points apiece. Caleb Hrabik finished with 13 points and Jack Wilson added 12 points. Timm led the team with six assists and four steals. Hrabik had a team-high six rebounds. Wilson posted two blocked shots.
Doane will return to action on Sunday, January 26, when they take on Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D. Tipoff is set for 1:45 PM.
