Men's Basketball Season Comes to a Close
Men's Basketball closed out the season on Saturday afternoon by hosting Hastings in Crete. The Tigers led at the half but a cold start to the second half could not be overcome as they fell, 70-58. Doane finished the year with a 9-19 overall record and tied for ninth in the GPAC.
Doane started slow, trailing 9-2 through almost five minutes of action. The Tigers finally caught fire in the latter stages of the opening half when they went on a 14-2 run to turn a 17-10 deficit into a 24-19 lead. The Tigers led 27-21 at the break.
Hastings scored the first eight points of the second half to take the lead. The Broncos used a 12-0 run over a 2:22 span to extend their lead to double digits, eventually leading by 22 points with 4:58 to play. Doane had one last offensive burst, going on a 12-0 run in a three minute span to pull within 10 points with 1:48 to play. The Tigers cut the lead to single digits momentarily on a 3-point shot by Brady Timm, a basket that would go down as his final shot attempt as a Tiger.
Fellow senior Caleb Hrabik led the team with 17 points on the day while Timm added 14 points. Casen Chaney posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.
Timm, a starter from day one with the Tigers, finished his career with 1,671 points for 14th-best in program history. Hrabik finished with 554 points in his three-year varsity career, starting every game this season.
