Quick Start Propels Men's Basketball Over York

YANKTON, S.D. - A dominant inside performance from forward Jack Wilson powered Doane to a 79–63 win over York (Neb.) on Friday evening at Cimpl Arena. Wilson finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Tigers improve to 3–1 overall.

Doane set the tone early with a 37-26 halftime lead, sparked by a fast start from Wilson and Casen Chaney, who combined for 21 first-half points. The Tigers' efficient offense shot 54.2% from the field, outscoring York 46–22 in the paint and building a lead that grew to as many as 20 points late in the second half.

Chaney poured in 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, adding five rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Trevon Beckman contributed 11 points, four steals, and four rebounds. Justus Gardiner controlled both ends of the floor with seven boards and four assists, and Jonan Claussen posted a 10-rebound, 5-assist effort to go with his perimeter defense.

York struggled to keep pace despite Devin Carroll's 12 points on four three-pointers and King Solomon's 12-point, six-steal night. The Panthers shot just 32.9% overall and 9-of-38 from three-point range.

Key moments included a 12-2 first-half run highlighted by back-to-back buckets from Wilson and a trey by Beckman that gave Doane a double-digit lead it would never surrender. Late in the game, a pair of baskets from Gardiner and Chaney's driving layup capped an 8-0 surge that pushed the margin to 20 with just over a minute remaining.

Doane dominated the glass 43–36 and held York to only eight points off turnovers while recording 20 assists on 32 field goals. The Tigers' balanced attack and defensive intensity kept York off rhythm throughout.

Next up for Doane will be Valley City State (N.D.) on Saturday at 3 PM as they close out the Mount Marty Classic.
