Andersen Sets School Record as Men's Golf Wins Red Raider Invite
Doane Men's Golf competed in 36 holes on Monday at the Red Raider Invitational at Landsmeer GC in Orange City, Iowa. The Tigers trailed by two strokes after the first 18 holes but came back in the second round to tie Morningside for the top spot. Doane won the team playoff to claim the tournament title.
The varsity squad posted a two-round score of 569 (287-282), the second-best score in a 36-hole event in program history. The top mark also came at Landsmeer GC in 2020-21. The Doane "B" squad placed ninth with a score of 597 (304-293).
Blake Andersen placed fourth overall with a three-under par score of 139 (74-65). Andersen's second round score broke the single-round record in program history. He recorded eight birdies while posting two bogeys on his way to a round of six-under par.
Andrew Paquette tied for fifth with a 140 (69-71), shooting two-under par. Blake Skoumal tied for seventh with a 141 (68-73). He was tied for the overall lead after 18 holes. Achilleas Lazaridis and Julius Rauter tied for 33rd with scores of 149 (76-73).
The "B" team was led by Ryan Weiss with a 147 (74-73) to tie for 25th. Noah Miller tied for 40th with a 151 (80-71). Josh Spomer posted a 152 (81-71) as did Karsten Kern (74-78), tying for 42nd overall. Garrett Dalton tied for 53rd with a 155 (76-79).
Next up for the Tigers will be the GPAC Championships on April 24-25 at The Bluffs in Vermillion, S.D. The first day of action will be 36 holes with 18 holes to be played on the second day. This marks the first year that the tournament will scheduled as a 54-hole event.
