Men's Soccer Snags First Win of Season

Doane Men's Soccer broke through on Thursday evening for their first win of the season as they topped Presentation, 2-1. The win also moved the conference record to .500 (1-1) on the season.

The Saints were the first team on the scoreboard as they picked up a goal in the 15' of play. Carlos Fenton played a free kick towards the back post, which was headed by Norberto Montero right to Jaden Brits who pushed a shot past Doane's Hunter Pitt (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) for the goal.

Doane tied the game in the 28' as Jarryd Stone (SR/Ballito, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa) played a long ball up the field that Cesar Gonzalez (JR/Puerto Quito, Ecuador) chased down the ball and won a 1-on-1 with the Saints' goalkeeper.

In the second half, the Tigers took the lead in the 67' as Stone set up another goal. On a throw-in, Stone fired the ball into the Presentation goal box and the ball was deflected to Clayton Cobb (JR/Hickman, Neb.). Cobb sent a shot into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

The Tigers held off the Saints' final push, finishing the game with a 35-7 shot advantage with shots on-goal standing at 15-5. Pitt finished with four saves in net for his first collegiate win. Eure Baris had 13 saves for Presentation.

Next up for the Tigers will be a match-up with Jamestown at 3:15 PM on Saturday, September 24, in Crete.
