Lackey Goal Gives Men's Soccer a Tie

Doane Men's Soccer hosted Morningside on Saturday afternoon as the two teams entered play tied in the GPAC standings. As the dust settled, the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie and remained tied in the conference standings with records of 2-1-2.

A Mustang mistake early in the game set up Doane's goal. The ball was deep in Morningside territory and a slow pass ahead was taken away by Braden Lackey (SO/Lincoln, Neb.). Lackey attacked a backpedaling goalkeeper and fired a shot past him for a goal in the 2' of play.

Despite the Mustangs holding a 12-6 shot advantage in the opening half, Doane led 1-0 at the break. Morningside would out-shoot the Tigers, 17-8, in the second half and were able to break through with a goal in the 54' as Alex Gonzalez scored.

Hunter Pitt (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) finished with 11 saves for the Tigers while Bjarne Huth had six for Morningside.

Doane will return to action on Saturday, October 8, as they travel to Mitchell, S.D., to face Dakota Wesleyan.
