McPHERSON, Kan. – The Doane men's soccer team showed flashes of strong attacking play but ultimately fell 4–2 to McPherson on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers struck first in the 13th minute when Guillermo Hamue converted off an assist from Paul Adukor, giving Doane an early boost on the road. McPherson responded with two goals before halftime to seize momentum, but Doane continued to push forward.
After the break, Doane equalized in the 68th minute as Mateo Jelicich buried a chance set up by Kai Goodman, leveling the match at 2–2.
The Tigers held strong defensively for much of the second half behind goalkeeper Curtis Oberg, who finished with eight saves, including five in the first period.
McPherson, however, capitalized late, scoring twice in the final seven minutes to pull away. Despite the result, Doane showed resilience, generating 15 shots—eight on target—and earning four corner kicks. Hamue and Jelicich highlighted a Tiger attack that kept the Bulldogs under pressure throughout.
The Tigers also demonstrated grit in midfield play, with Goodman's assist and Adukor's early setup showing the squad's ability to create scoring opportunities. Defensively, Oberg's efforts in goal kept Doane in the match until the closing stages.
Doane (1-5-0) now looks to regroup with the positives from today's performance as they turn their attention towards GPAC competition. The Tigers will travel to Briar Cliff on Saturday, September 20.
