MITCHELL, S.D. – The Doane men's soccer team battled through 90 minutes but came up short on Saturday evening, falling 4-0 to Dakota Wesleyan at Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
Doane's defense was tested early and often as Dakota Wesleyan pushed the tempo. Senior goalkeeper Curtis Oberg made six first-half saves to keep the Tigers within striking distance, but DWU broke through in the 18th minute. The home side added three more in the second half to put the match out of reach.
Despite the scoreline, the Tigers showed grit. Doane's back line absorbed 24 shots, with Oberg and Simon Aponte Morales combining for nine total saves. Freshman Mateo Jelicich generated one of Doane's best chances, putting a shot on frame that forced a stop from the Dakota Wesleyan keeper. Tomas Garcia Ibanez and Kai Goodman also found shooting lanes but couldn't capitalize.
With the result, Doane drops to 2-6-2 overall and 1-1-2 in GPAC play. Dakota Wesleyan improves to 5-6-1, 3-1-1 GPAC.
Doane returns to action Wednesday when they host a key conference match against Midland, looking to regroup and protect their home turf in Crete.
