Softball Splits in Final Games of Opening Weekend

Doane Softball closed out their opening weekend with a split of action on Saturday in Aberdeen, S.D. The Tigers dropped their first game of the day to Minnesota State-Moorhead, 6-0, but bounced back with a 13-2 win over Presentation.

The Dragons had two home runs to account for five of their runs in the opening game against Doane. They scored three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth. Doane was limited to three hits in the game, which included a double by Jadyn Hunt.

Camry Moore took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Emily Haines threw 2.2 no-hit innings with two strikeouts.

In the final game of the day for Doane, jumped out with eight runs in the top of the first inning and added five runs in the third. 

The Tigers received RBI-singles from Hunt and Angelina Esqueda and RBI-walks by Faith Molina and Jayden Young to take a 4-0 lead. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded, Moore smacked a grand slam home run to left to double the Doane lead.

The Saints had a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to get on the board only to have the Tigers build on their lead two innings later. Five different players accounted for the runs in the third inning. Kristen Malloy, Megan Elliott, and Hunt all had bases loaded singles. Anna Prauner drew a walk and Molina drove in the final Doane run on a fielder's choice.

Presentation scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to cap the scoring as the game ended in five innings.

Doane finished with nine hits in the game, two off the bat of Hunt. Malloy, Elliott, and Esqueda scored two runs apiece as every Tiger starter scored a run. Moore led the team with four RBI with Hunt and Molina finishing with two apiece.

Molina picked up the win, allowing two runs on six hits in 3.2 innings, striking out three. Moore threw 1.1 innings, striking out two.

The Tigers will return to the Presentation Dome on February 17-18 for a pair of doubleheader days.
