Blue Hawks Sweep Softball in Dome Battle

Doane Softball took on Dickinson State (N.D.) in a doubleheader on Sunday in Aberdeen, S.D. The Blue Hawks rallied in game one to take a 4-2 victory over the Tigers and carried the momentum into game two for a 9-1 win. Doane dropped to 3-5 on the season.

In game one, the Tigers scored a run in the top of the first inning. Grace Dowding scored on an error to go in front, 1-0. Dickinson State scored a run in the bottom of the first inning with a triple and a single to start the inning.

Doane regained the lead in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Kristen Malloy. Hannah Baesler scored on the play after leading off the inning with a double and stealing third base.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, DSU took the lead with two outs on a three-run home run.

Camry Moore started in the circle for the Tigers and threw 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Baesler was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Malloy was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

In the second game, Dickinson State scored a single run in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. Doane came back with a run in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit in half. Moore scored on an RBI-groundout by Malloy.

The Blue Hawks came back with two runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the sixth inning to force the eight-run mercy rule.

Doane had six hits in the game, two apiece from Moore and Dowding.

Faith Molina started and went 5.0 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and two strikeouts. Emily Haines threw 1.0 inning, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits.

Next up for the Tigers will be a trip to Kansas to take on the Ottawa Braves on February 24 at 1 PM in a doubleheader.
