Softball Splits with Ravens in Kansas

Doane Softball traveled to Atchison, Kansas, to take on Benedictine on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers won the opener, 6-3, but dropped the second game, 23-9.

In the opener, Doane scored six runs on four hits, taking advantage of seven walks. The Tigers scored twice in the 2nd inning, on a Kristen Malloy two-run double. In the 3rd inning, Doane plated two more runs to take a 4-0 lead.

Angelina Esqueda had two of the team's four hits in the game as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in. Malloy drove in two runs and Camry Moore added a RBI in the game.

Moore threw 7.0 innings in picking up the win for Doane. She allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out three.

In the second game, Doane struck first with three runs on a Megan Elliott home run. The Ravens came back with six runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. In the 2nd inning, Hannah Baesler delivered a two-run double to pull the Tigers within a run, 6-5. Benedictine, however, came back with nine runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 15-5 lead.

The Ravens added five runs in the 3rd inning and three more in the 4th frame. Doane came back with four runs in the 5th inning. Moore hit a two-run home run to start the scoring. Rylee Sand picked up her first collegiate hit and RBI with a run-scoring single. She came around to score on a RBI-single by Shelby Robinson.

Nine different players had hits in the game for the Tigers. Elliott finished with three RBI, while Moore and Baesler posted two apiece. Nine different players scored runs as well.

Next up for Doane is a Sunday, February 26, doubleheader in Salina, Kansas. The Tigers will take on Kansas Wesleyan at noon.
