Softball Splits as Offense Breaks Out in Game Two in Wichita

Doane Softball opened the Friends University Classic on Friday in Wichita, Kansas, and went 1-1 on the day. The Tigers dropped their opener, 4-1, to Mount Mercy but bounced back to defeat Waldorf, 9-0 in six innings.

In game one, the Mustangs jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Tigers got on the board in the 6th inning. Doane was limited to four hits in the game with Camry Moore picking up a RBI-single to score Hannah Baesler for the only Tiger run. Mount Mercy pitcher Jayna Witzany struck out 12 Tiger batters.

Emily Haines started for Doane and went 3.0 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with one strikeout. Faith Molina threw 3.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out four.

In game two, Doane's offense broke out while pitching limited Waldorf. The game was scoreless through the first two innings but Doane broke through in the 3rd inning with two runs on a Jadyn Hunt home run.

Doane pushed four runs across in the 5th inning as Kristen Malloy had an RBI-double and Moore hit a three-run home run. In the 6th, the Tigers enforced the mercy rule with three more runs. Baesler doubled in one run and Moore singled in the final two runs.

While the offense was delivering runs, Moore was limiting the Warrior offense. She held Waldorf hitless until the 6th inning when they were able to pick up two hits. Moore finished with 6.0 innings of work and striking out six.

At the plate, Moore was 2-for-4 with a run scored and five driven in. Angelina Esqueda was 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Malloy and Jayden Young were each 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Doane returns to action on Saturday as they take on York at 10:00 AM.
