Softball Opens Arizona Trip with Two Wins

Doane Softball opened their Spring Break trip in Arizona on Sunday with a pair of wins. The Tigers defeated Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), 3-1, before downing Dickinson State (N.D.), 5-2.

In the opening game, Doane scored two runs in the fifth inning, which would prove to be the difference in the game. The game-winning hit came from Angelina Esqueda as she had a two-run triple.

Camry Moore started in the circle for the Tigers and threw a complete game, scattering eight hits over 7.0 innings of work. She allowed one run, one walk, and struck out four.

Doane's offense was limited to three hits and two walks. Joining Esqueda with a hit were Hannah Baesler and Megan Elliott. In the sixth inning, Elliott had an RBI-single.

In game two, Faith Molina limited the Blue Hawks to three hits in the game as she picked up a complete-game victory in the circle. She allowed two runs (one earned), two walks, and struck out four.

Offensively, Doane's big innings were the fifth and sixth as they scored two runs in each frame. Esqueda had an RBI-double in the fifth to plate a run and Baesler followed with an RBI-single. Jayden Young drove in both runs in the sixth inning with a two-run single.

Jadyn Hunt and Young had two hits apiece in the game as Doane finished with eight.

Doane will play Friends and Viterbo on Monday in Tucson.
