Doane Softball dropped a pair of tight contests in Fremont on Saturday afternoon to Midland. The Warriors won the opening game, 1-0, and followed with a 5-2 victory in the second.
The opening game was a pitcher's duel between the Tigers' Camry Moore and Midland's Aliyah Rincon. Moore held the Warrior bats to five hits for the game while Rincon held Doane to four hits.
The only run of the game came in the third inning on a one-out double to drive in the eventual winning run.
Anna Prauner had two of the Tigers' four hits in the game.
Doane jumped out in game two with a run in the first inning. Prauner kept swinging a hot bat, delivering a two-out single to take a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Midland scored four runs to take the lead. An error brought in the first run of the inning which was followed by a three-run home run. Midland added a run in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Megan Elliott cut into the deficit in the fifth inning. She delivered a two-out single for the Tigers' second run of the game. Doane threatened in the sixth inning putting three runners on base when the Warriors brought in Rincon. She shut down the Doane threat with a pair of strikeouts.
Doane finished the game with eight hits, two apiece from Moore and Elliott.
Emily Haines threw a complete game, going 6.0 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
The Tigers will return home to take on Saint Mary on Tuesday, April 4, at 3 PM at the Doane Ballfield Complex. It will be Youth Appreciation Day at the doubleheader.
