Softball Drops Pitcher's Duals in Iowa

Doane Softball was on the short end of a pair of low-scoring games on Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa, against Dordt. The Defenders won both games, 1-0 and 3-1.

Game one was quick, as both pitchers limited base running opportunities. Camry Moore was in the circle for the Tigers and limited the Defenders to three hits in the game.

The lone run of the game came in the sixth inning. A shallow line drive by Karli Olsen fell out of the reach of a diving outfielder and rolled to the wall. Olsen rounded the bases for an inside-the-park home run.

Doane had two hits in the game, one apiece from Hannah Baesler and Angelina Esqueda.

Emily Haines started for the Tigers in the second game and threw 4.0 strong innings. Dordt was able to score two runs, one in the second and another in the third, against Haines. She allowed four hits and two walks with one strikeout. Faith Molina threw 2.0 innings, allowing one unearned run in the fifth inning. She did not give up a hit and struck out two batters.

The Tigers were able to get on the board in the sixth inning as Jadyn Hunt started a two-out rally with a double. Moore followed with a single to put runners at the corner. Megan Elliott had an RBI-single to bring in Hunt to cut into the deficit. Shelby Robinson added a single but the Defenders were able to throw out the lead runner at the plate to end the inning.

Doane out-hit Dordt, 6-5. Hunt led the team by going 2-for-2 with the team's only extra base hit.

Next up for the Tigers will be a doubleheader with Dakota Wesleyan on Friday, April 21.
