Softball Splits in Season Finale at Mount Marty

Doane Softball concluded their season on Saturday in Yankton, S.D., with a split against Mount Marty. The Tigers won the opening game, 5-1, but dropped the final game in a walkoff, 5-4, eliminating Doane from the postseason.

The Lancers only run of the opening game came in the bottom of the first inning on a ground out. Camry Moore held Mount Marty in check the rest of the way as she threw a complete game.

Moore helped her own cause in the third inning with an RBI-double to tie the game at 1-1. The game remained tied until the seventh inning. Faith Molina walked and moved to third on a double by Grace Dowding. Molina scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Moore then delivered an RBI-double to extend the lead. She would come around and score on a wild pitch as well. Angelina Esqueda scored the final Tiger run as she crossed the plate on an RBI-single from Jadyn Hunt.

In the circle, Moore finished with 7.0 innings of work, allowing one run on six hits and four strikeouts and zero walks. She finished the season with a 10-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio as she struck out 120 batters and only walked 12.

Offensively, the Tigers finished with 11 hits in the game. Esqueda went 3-for-4 with a run scored with Moore going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Megan Elliott and Anna Prauner were also 2-for-4 at the plate. Dowding led the team with two runs scored.

Doane jumped out early in game two with a run in the first. Shelby Robinson hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Moore for a 1-0 lead. Mount Marty tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning on a single.

The Tigers regained the lead in the second inning as Jayden Young delivered an RBI-single to plate Hunt. The Lancers came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. Doane tied the game in the fifth inning on an RBI-double by Hunt to drive in Molina.

In the seventh inning, Doane took the lead as Molina started the inning with a triple and scored on a single by Megan Elliott. The Lancers tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI-single and won the game as a throw home on a ground ball was late and the runner slid in safely.

Emily Haines started for the Tigers and went 1.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk. Molina took the loss as she went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out four.

Doane finished with 11 hits in the game, three apiece from Moore and Molina. Molina scored twice to lead the team and had two extra base hits in the game.

The Tigers finished the season with a 22-22 record and 9-13 mark in GPAC play.
