Women's Basketball Rides Past Hastings

Doane Women's Basketball snapped a six-game losing streak to Hastings (Neb.) on Wednesday evening in Crete with a 94-59 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Tigers led through the early stages but a 6-0 run on a pair of 3-point baskets by Hastings put the Broncos up 8-5 with 6:17 to play in the opening quarter. They would maintain the lead through the opening 10 minutes, leading 17-14 at the quarter break.

Doane opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run behind seven points from Mak Hatcliff (SO/Beatrice, Neb.). The Tigers would out-score Hastings, 20-4, in the opening five minutes of the quarter to change the tide. At halftime, Doane was in front, 46-29.

A Bronco layup opened the second half scoring but Doane would answer with an 8-0 run as Rylie Rice (FR/Chapman, Neb.) hit a pair of 3-point baskets. The Tigers out-scored Hastings by five points in the quarter and extended their lead to 61-39 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Doane capped the game by shooting 61-percent in the final quarter. The Tigers closed the game with a 24-5 run with the final score being the largest lead in the game.

Hatcliff led all players with 26 points, eight rebounds, and six steals, while adding three assists. Macy Holtz (SO/Plainview, Minn.) scored a career-high 21 points for the Tigers, adding four assists and three steals. Rice added 14 points with Megan Chambers (FR/Omaha, Neb.) posting 13 points and Libby Trausch (FR/Juniata, Neb.) finishing with 11 points. Kali Staples (SO/Broken Bow, Neb.) dished out a team-high five assists.

Alyssa Baker led Hastings with 11 points and Mariyah Avila finished with 10 points.

Doane will host No. 25 Northwestern on Saturday, November 19, at 2 PM in Crete.
