Women's Basketball Rally Falls Short Versus Jimmies
Doane Women's Basketball played host to Jamestown on Friday evening in Crete. The Jimmies, receiving votes in the national poll, jumped out early and held on for an 82-76 win over the Tigers.
Jamestown knocked down five 3-point baskets in the opening quarter and held a 21-17 lead after 10 minutes of play. The second quarter would prove to be the difference as the Jimmies out-scored the Tigers, 28-19, behind four more 3-point baskets and a 9-0 advantage in points off turnovers.
Doane began to chip away, winning the third quarter score, 15-12. Entering the final 10 minutes of play, the Tigers trailed 61-51. They would shoot 70-percent in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to complete the comeback as Jamestown hit just enough free throws to seal the road win.
For the game, the Tigers shot 47.5-percent from the floor but struggled behind the 3-point line where they were limited to 22.2-percent (4-of-18). At the free throw line, Doane converted 16-of-23 (69.6-percent).
Mak Hatcliff posted 25 points and five rebounds for the Tigers while Macy Holtz finished with 24 points. Rylie Rice added 11 points in her first career start. Holtz had a team-high two assists and tied for high honors in steals with Libby Trausch, also making her first career start, as both picked up three steals.
Jamestown finished the game shooting 47.7-percent from the floor, hitting 11-of-32 (34.4-percent) from behind the arc. They struggled at the free throw line, converting 9-of-20 (45-percent).
Doane has the quick turnaround as they will play Saturday, January 21, at 1 PM against Dakota Wesleyan.
