Women's Basketball Wins in Double Overtime Over No. 14 Bulldogs

Women's Basketball was at home on Wednesday evening as they hosted No. 14 Concordia. Forty minutes was not enough for the two teams to determine a win and neither was an additional overtime. When the dust settled in the second overtime period, Doane had earned a 93-87 win over the Bulldogs. It was the Tigers first win over Concordia since 2016 and their first one at home since 2010.

Doane was quick out of the gate, jumping to a 7-0 lead. Concordia came back with a 5-0 run only to have the Tigers go on a 9-0 run for a 16-5 advantage. The Bulldogs posted an 8-2 run to cut the Doane lead to five points, a margin the Tigers would hold after 10 minutes of action, 22-17.

In the second quarter, Concordia took the lead with a strong start. They led 29-28 with 6:46 to play in the quarter. Doane battled back to regain the lead behind nine points from Macy Holtz. The Tigers led 42-36 at the break with a 5-0 run over the final 1:14 of play in the half.

Concordia, again, chipped into the Doane lead and would tie the game at 47-all with 5:07 to play in the third quarter. Doane regained the lead with four straight points from Mak Hatcliff. After three quarters, the Tiger lead was down to one point, 53-52.

There were four lead changes and three ties in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs built a four point lead late in the game behind a 9-0 run as they led 70-66 with 13 seconds left. Hatcliff scored on a quick layup to pull within two points and Concordia made a free throw to go up three with seven seconds left. After a timeout, the Bulldogs fouled Doane and Hatcliff made the first free throw before intentionally missing the second. Doane was able to get a tie-up on the rebound and held possession. The inbounds pass went to Megan Chambers and she drew a foul on the shot attempt. She made both free throws to send the game into overtime, tied at 71-all.

Doane led the majority of the first overtime but never by more than three points. Holtz scored six points in the five minute session as the score was tied at 82-all heading into the second overtime.

Hatcliff took over the second overtime period for Doane, scoring eight points. She scored six straight to break an 84-all tie. Chambers added a layup and Addie Hatcliff posted a free throw for the final Tiger point.

For the game, Mak Hatcliff led the Tigers with 39 points and two steals. Holtz finished with 17 points and six assists. Chambers added 13 points and two blocked shots while Libby Trausch chipped in with 11 points. Kaylee Klover matched Hatcliff with 12 rebounds apiece.

Doane shot 45-percent from the floor (27-of-60) and 44-percent behind the arc (8-of-18). They were 31-of-38 at the free throw line. Concordia shot 37-percent from the floor (28-of-75) and 23-percent from 3-points range (9-of-40). They were 22-of-29 at the free throw line.
