Women's Soccer Edged by Hastings, 1-0

Crete, Neb. – Doane women's soccer battled throughout a defensive showdown on Wednesday night but came up short in a 1-0 loss to Hastings at Memorial Stadium/Papik Field.

After a scoreless first half, both teams traded chances in the second. Doane goalkeeper Virginia Johnson stood tall in net, recording seven saves, including several diving stops to keep the game level deep into the match. The Tigers generated six total shots, with Brianna-Lynn Ehia putting two on target and Hayle Brodine forcing another save in the 50th minute.

Hastings broke through in the 84th minute when Madison Rhodes found the back of the net off an assist from Sophia Lee, capitalizing on sustained second-half pressure. Rhodes led all players with six shots, four of them on goal.

Despite conceding late, the Tigers continued to push. Isabella Caranna nearly put the Tigers in front in the 83rd minute, striking the side of the near post just seconds before the Broncos' decisive goal.

Doane's back line, anchored by McKenna Rathbun, Elizabeth Winkels, Myridean Lehman, and Megan Kennedy, helped limit Hastings to one goal on 18 shots, while Johnson's effort kept the contest within reach.

With the result, Doane moved to 3-5-1 overall and 1-1 in GPAC play, while Hastings improved to 7-1-1 and 2-0 in the conference.

The Tigers will look to bounce back when they return to the pitch this weekend against Waldorf at 3:15 PM.
