Women's Soccer Edged by Late Goal

SEWARD, Neb. – The Doane women's soccer team battled Concordia, which is receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll, to the wire on Wednesday night, but a pair of late goals lifted the Bulldogs to a 2–1 win in the regular season finale at Bulldog Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Doane broke through in the 73rd minute when sophomore Hayle Brodine buried her second goal of the season to give the Tigers a 1–0 lead. The play marked Doane's first shot on goal of the night.

Concordia equalized in the 81st minute on a strike from Kierstynn Garner, assisted by Guadalupe Sanchez, and the Bulldogs completed the comeback in the 90th minute when Garner netted her second goal of the match off a setup from Savannah Andrews.

Senior goalkeeper Virginia Johnson turned in another standout performance for the Tigers, recording nine saves—five in the first half and four in the second—against 19 Bulldog shots. Doane was limited to just two shots, both on goal, while Concordia held a 6–0 advantage in corner kicks.

Defenders Megan Townsend, Elizabeth Winkels, McKenna Rathbun, and Myridean Lehman anchored a back line that kept Concordia scoreless for more than 80 minutes despite relentless pressure.

With the loss, Doane closes the regular season at 8-8-2 overall and 6-4-1 in the GPAC, securing a winning record in conference play. Concordia improved to 12-1-5 (7-1-3 GPAC).

The Tigers now turn their attention to the GPAC Tournament Quarterfinals, where they will look to carry their defensive grit and late-season momentum into postseason play. Doane will take on Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa, on November 4.
