Women's Tennis Edged in Home Opener

Women's Tennis opened up dual play at home on Friday afternoon as they hosted NCAA Division II Truman State (Mo.). The Tigers jumped out early by winning the doubles point but were edged out in the end, 4-3.

In doubles action, Doane won at 1-doubles and 3-doubles. The team of Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon won their match at 1-doubles, 6-2. At 3-doubles, Cierra Schwarzkopf and Kat Johnson teamed up for a 6-3 victory.

In singles play, the Tigers picked up wins at 1-singles and 2-singles. Purizaca won in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1, at 1-singles. Calderon was victorious at 2-singles, winning in a third set tie-break, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-8).

Doane will be back home for their next dual on September 17 when they host Nebraska Wesleyan at 4 PM.
