Men's Basketball Downed by Bethany

Doane Men's Basketball opened the Kansas Wesleyan Classic in Salina, Kan., on Friday evening against Bethany (Kan.). After taking an early lead, the Tigers were victims of cold shooting as the Swedes used a 22-1 run to post a 67-55 win in the opening game.

The Tigers were led on the night by Brady Timm (SO/Yutan, Neb.) with 16 points, going 7-of-9 at the free throw line. Fred Criqui (FR/St. Marys, Kan.) posted 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Alec Oberhauser (SR/Parkersburg, Iowa) led Doane with nine rebounds and five assists.

For the night, Doane shot 41.2-percent (21-of-51) from the floor and 17.4-percent (4-of-23) from behind the arc. The Tigers converted 80-percent (8-of-10) of their free throw attempts. Bethany shot 38.6-percent (22-of-57) from the floor and 36.8-percent (7-of-19) from 3-point range while hitting 76.2-percent (16-of-21) at the free throw line. Both teams committed 19 turnovers however the Swedes held a 19-6 advantage in points off of turnovers.

Doane will take on Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday, November 5, in the final game of the KWU Classic. The Coyotes are receiving votes in the NAIA preseason poll.
