Timm Hits Career-High; Men's Basketball Falls in Overtime

Doane Men's Basketball went to overtime for the third straight conference game on Friday night as they took on Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D. The Tigers would come out on the short end of an 85-77 decision in favor of DWU.

Dakota Wesleyan hit a 3-point basket on their opening possession and would maintain the lead through the first eight minutes of play. Doane's first lead came on a Brady Timm layup with 11:56 to play in the opening half for a 17-16 advantage. The teams would exchange the lead five times over the next six minutes with another Timm layup giving Doane the lead back, one they would hold going into halftime. The Tigers built a 10-point lead late and led 44-37 at the half.

A 13-0 run that was part of a 20-4 run for DWU put Dakota Wesleyan back in front early in the second half. DWU pushed their lead to nine points, 57-48, with 15 minutes to play in regulation. Doane was able to pull within five points entering the final two minutes. A 5-0 run, keyed by a Timm three-point play over the next 50 seconds tied the game with 1:11 to play. DWU drew a foul on their next possession and converted both free throws. Doane came back and tied the game with a free throw line jumper by Timm to force overtime.

In overtime, DWU opened with a 10-1 run and never looked back as they outscored the Tigers, 13-5.

Timm finished with a career-high 36 points for Doane. Alec Oberhauser added 13 points while Cooper Sheldon and Nick Saiz chipped in with 10 points apiece. Oberhauser and Sheldon led the way with seven rebounds apiece while Timm and Oberhauser tied for team-high honors with four assists each.

Koln Oppold led DWU with 34 points and 11 rebounds. He knocked down five of the team's 11 3-point baskets.

Doane will travel to North Dakota on Saturday to take on No. 6 Jamestown at 2:45 PM.
