Webber Wins Back and Forth Battle with Men's Basketball

Doane Men's Basketball dropped their final game of the Warrior Classic hosted by Webber International on Tuesday afternoon, falling to their host, 73-68. The loss dropped the Tigers to 7-8 overall heading into the new year.

The first half featured four lead changes and six ties as Webber International led 35-31 at the break. Alec Oberhauser paced Doane in the opening 20 minutes, scoring 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Oberhauser hit three 3-point attempts, the last giving the Tigers an 18-17 lead with 10:27 to go in the first half.

The Warriors answered with an 8-0 run to go in front, 25-18, but Doane countered with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 25-all with 5:34 to play. Webber used a 6-0 run late in the half to regain the lead. Oberhauser scored the Tigers' final eight points to keep the game in reach.

Webber International pushed their lead to 41-33 at the 16:27 mark of the second half. Oberhauser scored seven points in an 11-2 run to give Doane a 44-43 lead with 13:07 to go. Six lead changes took place over the next three minutes before the Warriors secured a lead they would not relinquish.

As the Warrior defense put more focus on Oberhauser, the Tigers were able to turn to Brady Timm who scored 14 second half points. Timm scored seven of the points in the final five minutes of action, including a 3-point basket with five seconds left to cut the deficit to 71-68. Webber hit both free throws with 4.6 seconds left and stole the long inbounds pass attempt to seal the win.

Oberhauser finished the game with 30 points, going 13-of-19 from the floor and 4-of-7 from behind the arc. He added seven rebounds and tied for team-high honors with two assists. Timm finished with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting, going 3-of-4 from behind the arc while picking up two assists. Matt Ademek joined Oberhauser and Timm with two assists in the game.

Cooper Sheldon led the squad with 10 rebounds in the game. Will Grixby made his return after missing action since the opening game of the season and knocked down his one shot attempt, a 3-point basket that tied the game at 47-all at the 11:22 mark of the second half.

Doane shot 43-percent from the floor (25-of-58), hitting 10 3-point baskets (10-of-29) for 34-percent, and converted on 8-of-9 (89-percent) from the free throw line. Webber International shot 45-percent from the floor (26-of-58), 33-percent from behind the arc (5-of-15), and 94-percent at the free throw line (16-of-17).

The Warriors were led in scoring by Eddie Davis with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting and 8-of-8 at the free throw line. Jyshaun Melvin added 16 points and Tiyon Martin added 11 points.

Doane will return to action when the calendar turns to 2023. The Tigers will start the new year with a trip to Fremont to face Midland on January 4 at 7:45 PM.
