Doane Softball traveled to Salina, Kansas, on Sunday to take on Kansas Wesleyan. The Tigers picked up a doubleheader sweep of the Coyotes, winning game one, 6-3, and game two, 5-0. With the wins, the Tigers are 6-6 on the season.
In game one, the Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after five innings of play. Camry Moore delivered an RBI-single in the 1st inning to plate Grace Dowding. Dowding picked up an RBI-single in the 4th inning. Hannah Baesler followed with a two-run triple and scored later in the inning on a throwing error. A wild pitch in the 5th inning plated Hannah Pack for the final Tiger run.
KWU scored their first run on an inside-the-park home run in the 6th inning. Their final two runs came across in the 7th inning on an RBI-single.
Moore threw a complete game to pick up the win. She went 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.
Doane finished with 10 hits, two apiece from Dowding, Baesler, and Jadyn Hunt. The Tigers had five stolen bases from five different players in the game.
The second game saw Emily Haines throw a complete game shutout. She went 7.0 innings, scattering five hits while striking out one to pick up the victory.
The first run of the game for Doane came across in the 1st inning as Dowding scored on a wild pitch. In the 3rd inning, Moore and Anna Prauner had RBI-singles to take a 3-0 lead. Baesler hit a solo home run in the 5th inning and Prauner picked up her second RBI of the game with a single in the 7th inning.
Doane had 10 hits in game two as well. Prauner led the team with three hits and Kristen Malloy finished with two hits. Dowding scored twice.
The Tigers will compete in the Friends University Invite on March 3-4 in Wichita, Kansas. Doane will face off against Mount Mercy and Waldorf on March 3.
